In the 1980s and 1990s there was considerable redecoration and renewal and a point was reached when it was clear that something drastic would have to be done to ensure the future of Penketh Methodist Church.  Major repairs and restoration were considered but eventually it became clear the only option was to demolish the existing chapel it and replace it with a new church and community centre. Fundraising began in earnest as more than of one million pounds would be needed to complete the project.

In early 2008 Planning permission was granted and the old chapel closed in October 2008 and church worship and activities were transferred to the Church Hall with demolition of the chapel finally taking place in April 2009.

Work to build the new building started 26th April 2010 and as the building took shape generous grants were received from Veolia, Wren, Ibstock, Rank Trust, Methodist Connexion, District, Circuit, Methodist Fund for Property and Norwood & Newton. The old Church Hall was also eventually sold. Early completion of the building project was ensured with a loan from Methodist Chapel Aid. To see our hopes become reality, during a time of national and international recession, is itself an achievement against all the odds, and says a lot about the members of Penketh Methodist Church who have raised a total of £1.16m to pay for the building costs in full.
